Michigan Model for HealthTM addresses major youth health risk behaviors at every grade level, with age-appropriate instructional activities
The Michigan Model for Health TM is written in alignment with the most current Health Education Standards from the Michigan Department of Education and other state's agencies. MMH consists of comprehensive health lessons that provide students with skill and evidenced-based instruction. These lessons are periodically updated, with revisions occurring as needed to maintain alignment with any newly published Michigan Health Education Standards.
Early Childhood Health (Pre-K)
The Michigan Model for Early Childhood HealthTM (MMECH) (Pre-K) activity module offers early childhood educators a resource that contains a set of age-appropriate, health activities and includes Teacher Prep Booklet, Photo Cards, Group Materials, A Study or Project, Material List, Teacher Resources, Activity Cards, etc.
Elementary School (Grades K-6)
The Michigan Model for HealthTM Elementary School (K-6) curriculum is organized by grade level and covers six comprehensive health topics with age-appropriate content per grade. Each grade level curriculum is available in digital and print format.
Middle School (7-8)
The Michigan Model for HealthTM Middle School (7-8) curriculum is organized into five comprehensive health modules that address the major youth risk behaviors identified by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in addition to covering other important health topics. The curriculum is available in digital and print format.
High School (9-12)
The Michigan Model for HealthTM High School (9-12) curriculum is organized into two comprehensive health modules that address the major youth risk behaviors identified by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in addition to covering other important health topics. The curriculum is available in digital and print format.
Support Materials (K-12)
The Michigan Model for Health™ is a skills-based curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12 that are filled with activities for classroom participation. To complete these activities, a variety of support materials are used which can be purchased individually or by bundled kits. Support materials range from posters and games to videos and books.
Emergency Preparedness Curriculum (Grades 1-12)
The Emergency Preparedness Curriculum is a comprehensive set of lessons and activities designed to be taught in grades 1 through 12 as a supplement to the Michigan Model for HealthTM curriculum. The purpose of the lessons and activities is to provide educators with the tools to teach students how to prevent, protect, respond and recover from natural and manmade disasters. This includes empowering students with the knowledge and skills to make smart decisions before, during and after an incident, and ensure all families have disaster plans.
The Emergency Preparedness Curriculum was recently updated and the entire curriculum is now available in a digital online format and on a USB flash drive. Newly developed support materials for the lessons/activities are also available. At the elementary level, there are four to six lessons at each grade level that can be taught within a short period of time or spread out over the school year. At the secondary level, there are thirty activities from which middle and high school educators can choose. Each activity is about twenty minutes in length and can be integrated into many different content areas.
